Standard One: Strategic Leadership
School executives will create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the school’s vision, mission, and goals in the 21st century. Understanding that schools ideally prepare students for an unseen but not altogether unpredictable future, the leader creates a climate of inquiry that challenges the school community to continually re-purpose itself by building on its core values and beliefs about its preferred future and then developing a pathway to reach it.

1A: School Vision, Mission, and Strategic Goals
The school’s identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, beliefs and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school community.
- CTE Night Celebration
Narrative: To help promote our "Career and College Ready" theme and goal for our school, I helped to improve recognition for out CTE programs. Over two thirds of our student demographic entered the work force the past 2 graduating classes, yet less than one fourth of our students are achieving CTE completer status. I worked with various CTE teachers to promote their courses by helping host celebration nights. I also encouraged staff to share their great work, and student accomplishments on social media. I also helped to organize a CTE (Medical Focus) Night to honor students in our nursing and paramedic courses. I was provided the opportunity to meet with all CTE parents and promote the work and positive paths their children were choosing.

-FLEX (Remediation Period) - Adjustments and Improvements
Narrative: As the leader of the of the FLEX Scheduling group (a subcommittee of our SIT), I helped plan and facilitate improved expectations and processes for our FLEX period. According to teacher surveys and teacher interviews, FLEX had become a growing issue and area of concern. Along with members of the FLEX team, I designed a staff training and professional development session to better define the FLEX period for teachers. Although the PD was led in my absence, I was able to help design and even facilitate by recording my thoughts and expectations for staff through a short filmed message.

-School Improvement Team
Narrative: As a member of the School Improvement Team I helped assess and monitor goals for the 2017-2018 school I specifically focused on our English/ Reading goals. Each administrator was assigned a specific subject/goal and I was selected to focus on English/Reading. Reading scores remained stagnant or below level for the past three school years. To help with the reading goals, and school wide literacy, I helped organize and implement remediation groups across English 10. I also lead a remediation group myself, helping students focus on their specific weaknesses based on FCS Case21 Benchmark Data. Over the course of second semester students were provided small group sessions focusing on high struggle areas such as author's purpose, tone and mood, and dissemination of informational text.

The principal/assistant principal creates and utilizes processes to distribute leadership and decision-making throughout the school.
- English PLC-
Narrative: In previous years our departments were provided strict mandates on PLC models and remediation plans. In an effort to promote teacher buy-in and build capacity I removed a number of parameters (with permission) to allow the English team to have more buy-in and autonomy over their own expectations. I assisted in processes and procedures where requested, and our remediation program in English grew exponentially. Not only in students data results (EVAAS and Benchmark Results), students specifically stated how much more they enjoyed English remediation compared to other areas. This student buy-in was a direct result of the English 10 teachers initiatives and ideas being utilized through a less restrictive environment. Students were provided constant positive reminders for honoring their social contracts.
