Standard Six: External Development Leadership
A school executive will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but in fact build community, the leader proactively creates with staff opportunities for parents, community and business representatives to participate as “stockholders” in the school such that continued investments of resources and good will are not left to chance.

STEM Night, Powder Puff, Curriculum Fair
Narrative: I was selected to chair our community outreach committee. Community involvement with all stakeholders is a serious need at Louisburg High School. With the exception of sporting events, our community has been provided very few opportunities to come on to campus and get a glimpse of the work being done here for and by our students. This school year our committee set out to provide more opportunities and work toward putting in structures for the future to increase community involvement. This year we hosted STEM Night, a Curriculum Fair, and our SGA hosted a Powder Puff Flag Football game to support cancer research. Each event was heavily marketed and student lead. School staff and administrators were provided with strategic opportunities to interact with community members and stakeholders. In the past a handful of parents and families attended events, but our first event the Powder Puff Game, had over 200 people in attendance and raised over 2,000 dollars. The event was a huge success and brought families to the school for a great cause.

Walk-Out Procedure
Narrative: As the administrator responsible for all campus safety and protocols I has a wide range of expectations and check lists to complete. Bus safety training, monthly fire drills, quarterly lock down drills, as well as seasonal safety drills all fell under my list of tasks and expectations. Most of these processes were already in place and it was my job to maintain the already established procedures. The planned student walk-out across the country in March afforded me the opportunity to create a new safety plan as well. Each school was charged with having a safe procedure in place. I ran point on this event, assigning teacher locations and utilizing available staff to ensure our students were able to peacefully exit the building and return without incident.
